Dole Foods Named as Top 100 Progressive Manaufacturer by Managing Automation; Award Based on InSync's GREENTRace Food Safety and Harvest Management Application

NEW YORK, NY, February 9, 2010 – Managing Automation, a Thomas Publishing Company, LLC publication, has announced Dole Foods as a winner of its sixth annual Progressive Manufacturing 100 Awards. The PM100 recognizes 100 projects that have achieved distinction in at least one of the eight core disciplines defined by Managing Automation Media as critical to business success in the years ahead.

As part of Dole’s comprehensive food safety program, the Ideployment features an RFID and sensor-driven agricultural track-and-trace solution InSync calls GREENTrace. GREENTrace was built on the iApp Builder and Food Safety and Harvest Management Solution Template. The  system uses an innovative Auto-ID and sensor hardware combination to track RFID-Tagged produce bins from the harvest fields, throughout possessing steps that include weighing, cooling, and cold storage.

Should contamination be detected at any point in the cold chain, the system allows for traceability down to the GPS coordinates of the field where the product was picked. contamination. InSync Software's Edgeware provides device management, dashboard views of harvest and subsequent movements. Logic is built into GREENTrace, incorporating time fencing into the movements of freshly harvested goods. As product moves from one stage to another, i.e the field to weighing, if it exceeds the pre-determined threshold for  time in-between, alerts are sent to the process owners, who can then prioritize incoming shipments to insure the lowest levels of spoilage, mitigating risk further.
